Congratulations, America!

Americans never cease to surprise me.
They did, when they elected Bush for the first time.
They did it a second time and that was more horror than surprise...

And now, to my amazement, they elected Obama. Thank goodness!!!
(though I do realise that with a slightly stronger Republican candidate and a slightly less kooky potential vice president, he would most certainly not have won).

Obama said during his electioneering that he'd increase the effort in Afghanistan and wants his allies to do the same. I hope he retreats from that because I am vehemently against that - and especially now, watching the European economy go down the toilet, that's the last bottomless hole I'd be wanting to pour money into. So, unless he has a very short-term and very clear agenda, I would vociferously oppose him. No matter honeymoon period and no matter how much I like the new American president. We all need to get out of that country and let them work things out for themselves. Even if (when) the results won't be to our liking.

He has a lot of fixing to do. I hope he concentrates mightily on that.

Buh bye, Bush. Good riddance!
(I wonder who he will pardon as he leaves...)
